We had heard the sales pitch 20x massage in the spa while you're lying on beach half intoxicated (ok ok to be fair it was the first time ever on Vaca Id gotten high. Guy tried to sell me cigars no thanks but err any weed amigo?) Anyways the Mayan woman was slim and skittish not used to cold calls but a masseuse being told to go get some business. 90 dollars per person is a little high when we can get 6 a year free. But for 200 we both could get 90 min message AND the Mayan water journey. Well, I'm not a sucker money is money to me, But I do love and trust the Mayan people and their angry colorful gods. THE MAYAN WATER JOURNEY Began with an 82-degree day and golf cart ride to NAAY SPA I began with a walk around the building listening to the frogs and Mayan music. The kitchens and buildings of the forest people. The steam houses of the priests and sound of distant waterfalls. So, when I entered and drank my first morning glory, I was ready. My resistance to money and the world and its problems drifted away into some background noise as the smells of the essential oils did their work. Funny how when relaxed waiting isn't waiting anymore it becomes something else...absorbing. We entered the Water Journey with a second Morning Glory The first room was heat and it was fucking hot (not as hot as a Turkish bath but HOT) We sat steaming and laughing telling stories with remembrances of other journeys together. Not as a couple or parents or grandparents but as friends who have shared such things together previously. And steam filled our bodies. Filled Our senses filled our being. After 10 mins the Guide brought us 2 containers of a lotion brewed on premises. With floral high notes and a heavy eucalyptus scent, seaweed and salt. We rubbed it all over and sat in the steam...After 5 mins the timer went off and We showered in steaming hot water. The room was a series of small stone seats set back in alcoves and we could barely see each other. Then the guide came to fetch us before the hot steam made us pass out. He was Explaining that after exfoliating in heat and opening the pores it is most important to go from hot to cold hot to cold this is the way of the journey.
